Walk in the shoes of a blind person.
Dark View Restaurant offers a unique opportunity to experience the world as a blind or visually impaired person. During this experience, you will discover a powerful intensification of your other senses such as smell, hearing, touch and especially, taste. Be prepared to be amazed.
How does it work?
Upon arrival you will be welcomed by a host and provided with a menu. When you are ready to place your order, the host will inform your blind or visually impaired server and guide. Dark View servers are specially trained to guide and take care of you in the dark. Your server will ask you to turn off all light sources including cellphones, flashlights, watches and any other light-emitting devices, as no light is permitted in the dining room in order to preserve the experience for all guests. Once you have placed your order and your server has provided these instructions, your server will lead you to your table and ensure that you are comfortably seated. Please note that Dark View Restaurant does not have any stairs. If you need anything while seated, just call your server’s name and they will attend to you immediately. Rest assured that your trained server is committed to ensuring your comfort throughout your stay – so you can relax and enjoy your experience!
Lazare Hounnake Adele, the owner and founder of Dark View Restaurant, who is himself completely blind, is also proud to provide employment opportunities to the local community, especially to blind and visually impaired people who suffer a 75% unemployment rate in Canada.
